De Beauvoir — Stow Brothers

Welcome to De Beauvoir

Tucked away between Hackney and Islington, De Beauvoir Town feels like a well-kept secret—peaceful, picturesque, and full of character. Its village-like charm comes from its tree-lined streets, elegant Regency-style houses, and a strong sense of community.

The area takes its name from the wealthy De Beauvoir family, who once owned much of the land here, but today it’s home to a mix of creatives, families, and long-time locals who love its balance of tranquillity and city life.

Our local guide: De Beauvoir

De Beauvoir — Stow Brothers

At the heart of the neighbourhood is De Beauvoir Square, a postcard-perfect green space with manicured lawns, beautiful rose beds, and even a children’s play area surrounded by grand Georgian homes. The square regularly hosts local events, making it more than just a pretty park—it’s a hub of community life and protected under the London Squares Preservation Act (because some things are just too good to mess with).

The area has an independent spirit, best experienced at places like De Beauvoir Deli, a much-loved spot for artisanal coffee, fresh produce, and fancy cheeses. When it comes to pubs, you’re spoilt for choice. The Scolt Head is a firm favourite, serving up a top-tier seasonal menu in a cosy setting. The Duke of Wellington, The Hunter S, and The De Beauvoir Arms all offer great food, good vibes, and that unmistakable neighbourhood feel.
