Welcome to Clapton

Clapton has come a long way from its days as a rural retreat for London’s wealthy. The area’s past is woven into its streets, from grand Victorian terraces to the former tram depot on Chatsworth Road, now a creative hub, it’s now one of Hackney’s most exciting neighbourhoods—full of charm, creativity, and a buzzing community spirit.

Our Local Guide: Clapton

Clapton — Stow Brothers

For green space, you cant go wrong with Millfields Park. Originally part of the ancient Hackney Marshes, its a great spot for a stroll, with leafy paths leading down to the River Lea—once a key player in Londons industrial past.

Chatsworth Road is Claptons beating heart. It was a major shopping street in the 19th century, and today, its still lively, packed with independent boutiques and a fantastic Sunday market.

Food-wise, youre spoilt for choice. Mambow brings punchy Southeast Asian flavours, Lucky & Joy serves up fun, creative Chinese-inspired dishes, and UCHI is a dreamy spot for Japanese food. Leos has Italian comfort covered, while P Francos tiny natural wine bar is a must for foodies.

For historic pubs, The Crooked Billet—dating back centuries—remains a community staple, while the Princess of Wales sits right on the canal with gorgeous riverside views.
