a word from the expert.....

Iโ€™ve called Leytonstone home for the past five years, and in that time Iโ€™ve come to love its unique, eclectic character. From great gastro pubs like Leytonstone Tavern and The Red Lion to bistro cafรฉs such as The Wild Goose Bakery and Back to Ours, thereโ€™s always somewhere new to enjoy. The open green space of Wanstead Flats offers a serene getaway from the hustle and bustle of urban life. The area is rich in history, with striking Grade II listed buildings like St Johnโ€™s Baptist Church (built in 1832) and Leytonstone House, the 18th-century home of Sir Edward Buxton, notable MP and conservationist. Thereโ€™s also St Andrewโ€™s Church, built in 1886โ€“1893 as a memorial to local philanthropist William Cotton. For quieter days, Leytonstone Library is a welcoming place to explore, while Leytonstone Leisure Centre is perfect if youโ€™re feeling more active. Nearby Wanstead Park, set in the former grounds of Wanstead House, offers walking trails, cycle paths and several ornamental lakes โ€” an ideal spot to relax, exercise, and soak up some local history. With an array of buses and the Central line underground station close by, you can be in the City and surrounding areas within minutes. BEN CHARLETON E11 BRANCH MANAGER

Our Local Guide:
Leytonstone

Norman Road, Leytonstone — Stow Brothers

Thereโ€™s more to Leytonstone than first meets the eye. Say the name to one person and they might think of the grand houses around Hollow Ponds, while say it to someone else and theyโ€™ll mention burgeoning South Leytonstone, or maybe the popular Bushwood. There are many different pockets, but theyโ€™re all united by the same inclusive community who recognise that itโ€™s the balance of it all that makes Leytonstone so great.

The centre is arguably the high street with its eclectic shops and eateries, but you only have to venture slightly further away and youโ€™ll come across hidden gems like bar Filly Brook on Grove Green Road, music venue Luna Lounge in Bushwood, or the The Hitchcock Hotel in Upper Leytonstone. Travel a little beyond and youโ€™ll find further contrast with the vast green space that Hollow Ponds and the Wanstead Flats provide. Simply put, youโ€™ll never get bored in Leytonstone.
